Amazon plans to invest more than $100 million in a new advanced manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana, creating 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs.

The company says the new positions will pay an average of nearly $100,000 per year, making the project notable not only for its size but also for the type of jobs being created.

What jobs will Amazon create?

The planned 585,000-square-foot facility will bring together advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating and assembly operations.

Amazon says positions will include CNC operators, welders, powder coating technicians, assemblers, manufacturing engineers, quality assurance specialists, controls engineers and program managers.

The facility is expected to manufacture products used across Amazon's North American fulfillment and robotics network.

AI and automation — but also new skilled jobs

The factory itself will rely heavily on modern automation. Amazon says AWS technology, AI-powered smart manufacturing systems and robotics will support production.

That makes the project an interesting example of how automation does not necessarily mean fewer workers in every setting. In this case, Amazon is investing in automated production while simultaneously planning hundreds of skilled technical roles.

What this means for job seekers

Advanced manufacturing increasingly combines traditional industrial skills with robotics, controls, engineering and software. Workers who can operate, maintain or improve automated systems may see growing opportunities as companies bring more sophisticated manufacturing capabilities in-house.

The jobs will not arrive immediately

The project is still forward-looking. Amazon expects the Greenwood facility to launch by 2028, meaning the 300 jobs announced are planned positions rather than vacancies that are all available today.

For the Indianapolis region, however, the investment provides a clear signal about the types of industrial skills major employers expect to need over the next several years.

Amazon already employs more than 27,000 people directly in Indiana and says it has invested more than $40 billion in the state since establishing operations there in 2008.
